Looking back, I don’t know what we would have done without him as the guide. There are many steps to the process, and for a first-time visitor, the experience would have been filled with many headaches along the way without a high-quality guide like Jim.

An experienced, professional NYC local who can offer suggestions and recommendations for other things to do in NYC after your tour
- The walking tour covers approximately 4 miles, so guests should be able to stand or walk for long periods at a time.
- Wheelchair & stroller accessible, but due to the limited space inside the pedestal, strollers must be left outside and picked up upon exit. Wheelchairs are allowed inside the pedestal and there is a lift to get the guest to the pedestal observation deck. However, due to the narrowness of the observation deck wheelchairs cannot go outside.
Visitors are required to undergo two airport-style security screenings so please do not bring any alcohol, sharp objects (knives, scissors, etc), or weapons of any kind. There will be no opportunity to check them and they will be confiscated with no opportunity to retrieve them. Your tour guide will be on hand to help you through this process and make it stress-free.
What You'll Do
Here at City Tales, we pride ourselves on our small group sizes, never exceeding 10 people per group. The Statue of Liberty is visited by many large crowds but our small groups and headsets with earbuds and volume control allow you to move around independently and avoid the crowds while listening to the live narrative of your experienced guide.
We will save you time by pre-reserving and buying tickets, making sure you have more time to soak up the history and beauty of these national treasures. Your guide will share stories about the various monuments you will see along the tour and keep all ages entertained and making sure you are in the perfect position for views and photos to make the memories last.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will my tour be cancelled if it rains or the weather is bad?
Tours operate in all weather conditions. Please check the weather and dress appropriately. Statue of Liberty tours operate as long as the ferry runs. The ferry will operate unless the U.S. Coast Guard decides that the conditions are not safe. In the unlikely event that tours are cancelled customers will be given the opportunity to rebook based on availability or receive a full refund.
What time should I arrive for my tour?
We ask guests to plan to arrive at the meeting point at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled departure. Earlier if possible. We recommend this just in case there are any travel difficulties like traffic or train delays. It is especially important to arrive early for the Statue of Liberty tour since this visit requires guests to ride the ferry and we are at the mercy of the ferry schedule, so tours must begin on time. A delayed start of as little as 5 or 10 minutes could set the tour back by 30 minutes or more if a ferry is missed. That’s why this tour meets near Starbucks so you can arrive early and enjoy breakfast, coffee, tea, etc.
Should I tip my guide?
Tipping is not mandatory but it is customary. For small group tours if you thought the guide did a great job and would like to tip them they will be very grateful.

We enjoyed this tour and Jim was a fantastic tour guide. A great touch also with him personally taking the time to take 2 great photo ops with a view of Downtown Manhattan skyline and then in front of the Statue of Liberty
Kevin provided good advice prior to everyone going through security and then assisted with advice on where to get the best shots of the statue.
