“Travel” the World at The Bronx Zoo

The Bronx Zoo(opens in a new tab) is one of the largest zoos in the U.S. and home to over 6,000 different animal species, ranging from lizards to lions! Different exhibits offer a huge variety of experiences.

There is a children’s zoo where you can pet goats and donkeys. In the Congo Gorilla Forest, you can get face-to-face with giant apes showcasing their unique personalities. Tiger Mountain offers a place to watch tigers roam on land and also swim underwater! Always a crowd favorite, the Wild Asia Monorail is a 20-minute narrated ride that takes you into the heart of the Asian wilderness. If you love elephants, rhinos, and adorable red pandas, make sure to hop on board.

A great local secret is that the Bronx Zoo is free on Wednesdays!

Catch a Flyball at Yankee Stadium

The original Yankee Stadium was demolished in 2009, but the new one is just as impressive and only one block north. It incorporates replicas of some of the original’s design elements, and with a price tag of $1.5 billion, it is one of the most expensive stadiums ever built!

Keeping with the traditions set by the original stadium, the current venue, in its first year as Yankee home field, hosted the World Series. The Yankees won that World Series, defeating the Philadelphia Phillies, 4 games to 2!

Take in the Natural Diversity at the New York Botanical Garden

Home to over one million species of plants, the New York Botanical Garden(opens in a new tab) is the largest botanical garden in NYC.

It’s annual seasonal exhibitions, such as the annual Orchid Show and Holiday Train Show, delight New Yorkers year-round. Art lovers are drawn to the garden’s special events such as CHIHULY(opens in a new tab), which showcased 20 vibrant Dale Chihuly glass installations!
